The Bible Says - DO NOT EAT PORK !

Both the Bible and the Qur’an prohibit the eating of pork. Muslims are aware of this prohibition and observe it strictly. However, most readers of the Bible say they do not know where they can find this in the Bible.

In the book of Leviticus, chapter 11, v. 7, it is recorded that God declares the pig to be unclean for believers. Then, in verse 8, God says: “You must not eat their meat or touch their carcasses; they are unclean for you.” This command is repeated in Deuteronomy 14:7-8. Then, in Isaiah 65:2-4, and 66:17, God issues a stern warning against those who eat pork.

Some people are aware of this prohibition from God, but they say that they can eat pork because St. Paul said that all food is clean in his letter to the Romans 14:20. St. Paul said this because he believed (as he wrote in his letter to the Ephesians 2:14-15) that Jesus had abolished the Law with all its commandments and regulations. He seems, however, to have misunderstood what he heard about Jesus. In the Gospel According to Matthew 5:17-20, Jesus is reported to have said quite the contrary, as follows: “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law . . . ."

Jesus then went on in that passage (in verse 19) to denounce anyone who would break the smallest commandment and teach others likewise. He also praised his true followers who will practice and teach even the smallest commandment. One of the commandments, as we have seen, is to stay away from pork.

This is why the true followers of Jesus, holding on to his teachings, did not let unclean food such as pork enter their mouths, so that Peter, the chief disciple, can say, “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean” (Acts of the Apostles, ch. 10, v. 14)

Five chapters later in the Acts of the Apostles, 15:29, we find that the original disciples still differentiate between clean and unclean foods, and this time Paul is in agreement with them. Six chapters later, in ch. 21, v. 25, their decision to impose food regulations on believers is mentioned without regret, and this time Paul is challenged to prove that he is in agreement with them; and he demonstrated his full agreement with them.

What remains, then, is that Jesus, on whom be peace, upheld the prohibition against pork. His disciples also upheld it, and so must all his followers. Those who fail to uphold it need to be informed and reminded of this rule from God. This is one reason why God sent His final messenger, on whom be peace. God says:

“O people of the Scripture ! Now has Our Messenger come unto you, expounding unto you much of that which you used to hide in the Scripture, and forgiving much. Now has come unto you light from Allah and a plain Scripture.” (The Meaning of the Glorious Qur’an 5:15)

Excellent article. I am a follower of the Messiah Yahshua (Or Jesus if people prefer his western nickname). 2 Peter Chapter 3 gives a strong warning about taking Paul's writings as a excuse for lawlessness and that it would lead to hell!

Paul's writings are very much taken out of Context, and many times he is talking about the MAN MADE laws of the Talmud.

So I for one am a Torah keeping Follower of the Messiah, and let me tell you, mainstream christianity (Which is in reality nothing but pagan sun god worship) hates people like me

Good article!

It's good to see in the comments that some Christians follow God's laws.

THE Bible also tells us in both the old and new testament not to eat blood of any sort and tells exactly how we should kill animals drain its blood and cover with dust. Most people don't know how there food was killed and I'm pretty sure no abattoir goes out and pours blood of the animals it has slaughtered on to the ground and covers it.The Bible says only eat the meat of animals who's blood has been drained from it.
As christens we should be careful of what other meat we eat too.

Hi all, Im a muslim and was so glad and happy to see God's commandments regarding pure food. I have similar respect for all books of God. I just wanted to share few similar Quran words with all of you,
“O you who have believed, eat from the pure things which we have provided you” (Quran 2:172).
“O mankind, eat from whatever is on earth (that is) lawful and pure” (Quran 2:168)
“Forbidden unto you (for food) are: carrion and blood and swine flesh, and that on which hath been invoked the name other than Allah, and the strangled, and the dead through beating, and the dead through falling from a height, and that which hath been gored to death, and the devoured of wild beasts, saving that which ye make lawful (by slaughter) and that which hath been immolated to idols and that ye swear by the divining arrows. This is an abomination….” (Quran 5:3)
Peace and love to all of you.

We should be thankful that we have plenty to eat. God has given us 10 comandments and these are set in stone the rest is just the word of man and each man is tainted so follow what you think to be right but do not judge or impose your feelings onto others!
thank you

Very nice article. God created everything for it's purpose and scavengers, such as pork is, was created to help clean up the earth. God did not intend for scavenger meat to be consumed by humans. I wish more people would read the bible in deeper study to understand the simplicity in which it was written. If people would adhere to the health laws of the bible, they would be much healthier. Thank you for your article, and I would hope that more people would take time to consider that God has given us his Word in order to know how to live happy, healthier lives so we can serve him better.

I couldn't agree more CJD! People of the world, regardless of their religion, should be more aware of where their food comes from so that we can lead cleaner, healthier (and hopefully more Godly!) lives.

Adam to Noah didn't eat any meat, not even the animals ate any meat. Gen 1:29, 30 "And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so." This was a Universal Command
The ban on meat was lifted after the flood. Gen 9:3 "Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things." This was a universal Command. So Noah had the authority to eat any kind of meat he wanted. The restrictions in Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14 as you said was directly to the Israelites. This was a National Command. That means the Other nations continued to do what Noah was commanded to do. Gen9:3 quoted above. Even in the NT God gives Christians the same command he gave Noah. 1 Tim 4:4 "For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving." So if you want to eat pork, it a matter of choice. No one can judge you for what you eat Col 2:16 "Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days" One can not preach against eating pork with the authority of God, only with their opinion. Christians have been given the choice.

'And He said to them 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.
He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.
And these signs will follow those who belive: In my name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them, they will lay hands on th esick, and they will recover' (Mark 16:15-18)

I have a question ..
In Acts 21:25 it says to abstain from meat offered as sacrifice to idols.
Is that to say that only pork was offered to idols ??
Thank you,
Angela

Matthew 15:10-11
"Jesus called the crowd to him and said, "Listen and understand. What
goes into a man's mouth does not make him 'unclean,' but what comes
out of his mouth, that is what makes him 'unclean.' " "

The gentiles always ate all meats, now all are called into God's grace. No longer just the Israelite's who followed the strict kosher diet.

I am still making my mind up on this one, this is what I am thinking for now.

Either Paul's words are inspired by God or they are not. Why are Paul's words in the Bible if they contradict those of Jesus? How could Paul (who came after Jesus) believe something that directly conflicts with Jesus' own words? This suggests that we have a section in the Bible that was not inspired by God -or- that God is contradicting Himself. That's called "blasphemy" and it doesn't sit well with God.

I just wanted to offer some clarification on this issue from a Christian perspective: the reason many Christians eat pork is because Jesus is quoted as saying in Mark 7:18-19 ["Are you so dull?" he asked. "Don't you see that nothing that enters a man from the outside can make him 'unclean'? For it doesn't go into his heart but into his stomach, and then out of his body."]
Also he lectures that all sin comes from within a man, nothing outside his body can make him unclean.
Many Christians interpret these passages to mean that all food is clean and suitable for human consumption, especially in our modern world where disease from food is far less likely to occur. Some Christians however continue to abide by Old Testament law and avoid pork. One thing is certain however in either situation: Christians are not trying to defy God's commandments. Any mistakes they make in interpreting his word are mistakes and not meant to offend God, and only God will be the judge of such things.

I am a Muslim , and I am very proud that many people recognize the teachings of Jesus . We are closer than we know . And for those who do not wish to be a part of a religion , you can look up the data on adverse health effect of consuming swine . God knew what He was talking about when he told his slaves (mankind) to avoid it, God knows best for all of us.

Since the Bible was written and translated by MAN,
and many books were left out for one reason or another, FEW can follow the Bible and do whatever it says. The Bible says a man can have two wives. I do not know of any Christian who follows the Bible completely, only those who SAY they do.
